Welcome back, warriors! 🥋✨
After building a strong foundation with our stances and basic movements, it’s time to bring more energy into the training room. In this LIVE class, we’ll dive into basic kicks and start combining them into flowing kick combos — perfect for beginners but also a great refresher for higher belts.
Here’s what we’ll cover in today’s session:
✅ Fundamental Kicks — Building the Core 🦵
We’ll refine the essential kicks that every Taekwondo student must master:
- Front Kick (Ap Chagi) – Quick, direct, and powerful. Great for both attack and defense.
👉 Focus on chambering the knee high and snapping back quickly. - Side Kick (Yop Chagi) – Pure power through the heel. Excellent for creating distance.
👉 Think of “pushing the wall away” with your foot. - Roundhouse Kick (Dollyo Chagi) – Dynamic and explosive. The signature Taekwondo kick.
👉 Pivot your supporting foot and let the hips lead the strike.
🔥 Kick Combos — Flow Like Water 🌊
Once we’ve drilled the basics, we’ll put them together in combinations:
- 1–2 Kick Drill: Front Kick ➝ Roundhouse Kick
- 3-Kick Flow: Side Kick ➝ Roundhouse Kick ➝ Front Kick
- Power Combo: Step-In Front Kick ➝ Double Roundhouse ➝ Side Kick
These combos will challenge your balance, timing, and coordination, while giving you the rhythm needed for sparring or fitness flow drills.
💡 Coaching Tips from 20 Years on the Mats
- Always chamber first. A weak chamber leads to a weak kick.
- Train with speed and snap, not just brute strength.
- Breathe with every strike: sharp exhale = more power + stamina.
- Stay light on your feet — imagine you’re “dancing with power.” 🎵⚡
