Welcome back, warriors! 👋
By the time you’ve reached Green Belt, you’ve already built a solid foundation of stances, strikes, and kicks. Now it’s time to level up. In Class #6, we shift our focus toward sparring preparation 🥊 and learning new techniques that sharpen your skills for real combat situations.
Here’s what we’ll cover today:
🔥 Sparring Preparation — The Mindset of a Fighter
At this stage, sparring isn’t about “winning” — it’s about applying what you’ve learned in a dynamic, moving situation.
- Guard & Footwork 🦶
- Always keep hands up and chin tucked.
- Light on the balls of your feet, ready to move forward, backward, or sideways.
- Drill: 1-minute shadow sparring, focusing only on footwork.
- Distance Control ↔️
- Learn to measure the gap between you and your partner.
- Too close? Risk of counterattack. Too far? Your strikes won’t land.
- Drill: partner “tag” game — use only footwork to stay just out of reach.
- Reaction & Timing ⏱️
- Sparring is all about reading your opponent.
- Use feints, small movements, and quick counters.
- Drill: partner lightly attacks with jab/side kick → you defend & counter.
🥋 New Techniques for Class #6
✅ Roundhouse Kick (Advanced Variation) — Add hip rotation + pivot for more speed & height. Perfect for sparring setups.
✅ Axe Kick (Naeryo Chagi) — Chamber high, drop heel down like a hammer. Great against taller opponents.
✅ Combination Drill: Jab → Cross → Roundhouse → Backward step → Axe Kick.
Each of these builds fluidity, not just raw power. Sparring is about linking moves together smoothly. ⚡
💪 Benefits Beyond Sparring
Training at this level doesn’t just prepare you for combat — it transforms you physically and mentally:
- Explosive endurance — moving constantly builds cardio stamina.
- Sharpened reflexes — reaction drills improve daily coordination.
- Confidence under pressure — the calm you build in sparring carries into life.
👉 Remember: Sparring is an exchange of learning, not a fight. Respect your partner, keep control, and always train with the warrior’s spirit.
I’ll see you in the dojo — ready, focused, and hungry to grow. 🥋🔥
